Terms of use

Last updated 18 September 2026

YAM lets a family record short voice messages that play on a child's Yoto player, on a card the family owns. By using it you agree to what follows. It is short on purpose.

What you are getting

A subscription, held by the person who owns the Yoto account, that lets them make a tape and record onto it, and lets the people they invite record onto it too. Playing a tape — on the card, in the Yoto app, or here — is never part of what you pay for, and never stops when a subscription ends.

What happens when a subscription ends

New recordings stop. Nothing is taken away: every message already on the tape stays on it, the tape stays in your Yoto library, and the card keeps playing. A tape or a message is deleted only when its owner asks, and for no other reason.

Your recordings

The audio lives in the Yoto library of the person who owns the account, under Yoto's own terms. We keep only what we need to run the tape: who recorded which message, when, and where it sits. Anyone who records agrees that the account owner, and any child who plays the card, will hear it.

Inviting people

The account owner decides who may record, and can pause or remove anyone at any time. Removing someone does not remove the messages they already left.

Being reasonable

Don't record anything unlawful, or anything you wouldn't want a child to hear. We may close an account used that way. We may also change or withdraw the service; if we do, your tapes stay in your Yoto library regardless.

Yoto

YAM is not made by or affiliated with Yoto. It works through Yoto's public developer tools, and it depends on them: if those change, some of this may stop working.

Payments

Payments are handled by Paddle, who act as the seller of record and issue your receipts. Refunds are described on the refunds page.
